麒麟 Neuromorphic wafer, ninth generation

KIRIN-9. Neurons, fabricated.

A GPU pretends to be a brain one matrix at a time. KIRIN-9 is built like one: spiking neurons in silicon, synapses that strengthen as they conduct, and no difference between running a model and teaching it.

01 Anatomy

Four layers. One mind.

Photonic fabric
Optical links between dies and between wafers. A spike crosses a Shōgi pod in 40 nanoseconds.
Synapse plane
1.1 quadrillion memristors. Each one's resistance is a weight, and each one changes a little every time it carries a spike.
Neuron array
88 dies of leaky integrate-and-fire neurons, stitched across the reticle boundary into one continuous sheet.
Immersion manifold
Two-phase dielectric cooling. The wafer is never more than 4 °C from its set point, except during excursions.

02 Defect tolerance

It heals around its scars.

A wafer this size always has dead dies. KIRIN-9 notices, grows synapses around them, and keeps thinking. Nobody has to stop it.

The rerouting is the same plasticity that lets MUGEN learn: a path that stops carrying spikes weakens, a neighbour that starts carrying them strengthens. In 2026, 91% of KIRIN-9 wafers passed burn-in at Site 7. The rest became part of the ones that did.
